Nipon Boutique – Albert & Pearl Nipon

Albert and Pearl Nipon started their fashion venture in 1954 in the United States and was originally aimed at the maternity market. This was so successful they opened a chain of maternity dress shops called Ma Mere.
Sensing a need for young mothers to acquire a more chic look. Pearl developed the Nipon Boutique Range to suit this market but quickly found there was a general demand for these ultra feminine clothes.
Their popularity caught the fashion world by storm and graced the likes of Nancy Reagan, Barbara Streisand, Mary Tyler Moore and many others and quickly made the “Nipon” brand a worldwide name. After their initial success the fortunes of Nipon changed drastically when Alberts was found guilty of tax evasion and ended up spending 20 months in a maximum security prison. The brand declared bankruptcy in 1988 and it was then sold to Leslie Fay Co.

Albert and Pearl Nipon are now deceased.
