Flora Kung – Flora Kung

Flora Kung, raised in Taiwan, went to New York to study at Parsons the famous school of of Design where she developed her love of fashion. She was drawn to Paris where she freelanced for ateliers before becoming assistant designer to Emmanuelle Khanh.

Returning to New York in 1983, she set up her own design label. Unable to source suitable fabrics for her new venture she set about creating her own. These she sent to south Korea where they were printed on the luxurious fabric silk crepe. When Saks 5th Avenue showcased her collection in their legendary window display, Flora’s bold and carefree prints and designs quickly established her as a up and coming young designer.

More recently a Vintage Flora Kung Kimono dress was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and The City. The label is a favourite among costume designers and the vintage styles still frequently pop up in films and television.

Our Fashion insider states “In her later life, Flora has diversified into short film making, several of which have been selected for Cannes festival.”
